Dr. Natalie ManaloWe are happy to announce that Dr. Natalie Manalo will join the team at Fort Wayne Neurological Center. She graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport and completed her residency at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where she also did a fellowship in sleep medicine.

“I became most interested in narcolepsy and have written a book chapter on that, as well as review articles on treatments for insomnia,” she said. “I’m interested in how new consumer wearable fitness technology, such as the Fitbit, is being used to monitor sleep and what role if any they might serve in diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.”

Dr. Manolo also completed a fellowship in autoimmune neurology at Harvard University. “This is a new field of neurology that focuses on diseases in which the immune system (the part of the body responsible for fighting infections) attacks the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves, etc.),” she said.

“The immune system can attack any part of the nervous system, from the brain to the spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles, so patients with autoimmune neurologic disease can have any number of neurologic symptoms,” she said. “This makes the diseases very interesting. It is an exciting field since all the time we are discovering new immune-mediated neurologic diseases and new treatments for these disorders.”

In her free time, Dr. Manalo enjoys spending time with her family, including husband JP, baby Marco and dog Ralph, as well as reading, running, interior decorating and ballet. She’s looking forward to moving to Fort Wayne so Marco can grow up near his paternal grandparents.
